Art Works startup project is the first of its kind in the Inland Empire. Programming, such as drama, choir, drawing, painting, and crafts, are offered three-four times per week at the Riverside Peer Support and Resource Service Center (PSRSC) and the Perris PSRSC. This November, Art Works opens a gallery space in downtown Riverside.
The goal of the art center project is twofold: to offer the best environment and programming for artistic expression for those who carry a mental health diagnosis and to create a commercial gallery that exhibits, markets, and sells work of art and sustains itself economically. It is our belief that through artistic expression, that wellness and recovery can be cultivated. We also hold that through this project the stigma of those who carry a mental health diagnosis will be reduced.
The art center is part of the Jefferson Transitional Program. The Riverside County Department of Mental Health has donated funds to cover the base operating costs of the art center.
