The Program: The Place is a safehaven drop-in and permanent housing program that seeks to engage the most visible, yet hardest to reach, chronically homeless
person who carries a primary diagnosis of a serious mental health disorder. The Place supports the Riverside County Department of Mental Health
Western Region (of Riverside, Corona, Norco, Moreno Valley and surrounding unincorporated areas).
The service approach is to provide a highly supportive environment where the persons noted above can rest, feel safe, and where there are no
immediate service demands. The first goal is to re-establish trust and engage these individuals into accepting support. The service model includes
peer to peer outreach, engagement, support and role-modeling. Peers are persons who also carry a serious mental health diagnosis and may also
have been homeless. All interventions are based on Wellness & Recovery values such as restoration of hope, choice, dignity and respect,
empowerment and opportunities for self sufficiency. Intensive support will be provided to The Place residents in order to further promote Wellness &
Recovery.
Drop-In Center: Works to engage chronically homeless persons in participating in their own recovery through relationship building and establishing trust that leads to
accepting housing and other supportive services such as:.
Low-demand safe center with opportunities for interaction/recreation.
Food and access to clean clothes, showers and laundry facility.
Permanent Housing Facility: The Place offers permanent supportive housing for 25 adults (no children). The facility includes 12 semi-private and
one private room. Residents have separate living room & dining areas.
Permanent Housing Support: Permanent housing residents will be linked to Wellness Partner who will encourage and work with each resident to develop their own goals and then
link them to services and supports that will assist them in achieving his or her goal. These services include transportation, linkage to mental health and
substance abuse treatment, access to medical care, assistance in acquiring disability benefits, vocational and/or educational services, and personal
supplies essential for wellness and recovery. Reconnection to community is an important component of recovery, either reconnection with family
and loved ones or establishing a new social network of support. Residents receive on-site training in the life skills that are essential for self
sufficiency (e.g. self care, budget planning, money management, housekeeping, meal planning, shopping and meal preparation). Residents and guests
participate in facility housekeeping, meal planning, shopping and meal preparation.
Residents may live at The Place as long as they choose; however, the program goal is to assist them in moving on to more traditional housing
environments such as living in their own apartment. Residents who do move on to other housing options will continue to receive supportive services.
