JTP encourages individuals to work as a stabilizing life force. We recognize the importance of competitive, integrated, paid, and meaningful employment to the quality of life for persons with severe psychiatric disabilities. Our vocational program offers paid employment through three stages: Situational Assessment, Work Adjustment, and Transitional Employment, with a goal of competitive employment when appropriate. Each stage of employment is designed to allow for advancement and more independent work skills to closely resemble competitive work performance levels. In contrast, if a participant is unable to work in a competitive job setting, concise and concrete documentation can be provided in the form of a Situational Assessment Report. If this documented trial work experience should result in the acknowledgement of one's inability to participate in job development activities, the Department of Rehabilitation counselor will have the necessary documentation to support entitlement procedures, i.e. SSI, SSDI, and GR benefits. Voluntarism is then recommended as a form of meaningful activity for the participant. |
